Wendy Hurford MBE.

President, Founder and Director:

Being Jersey born and bred and having a deep commitment to the Island, I have always believed that as a small community, we should be able to help and support others and so build a strong balanced resilient community.

I returned to Jersey after university and a few years teaching in Brixton, and subsequently became Headteacher of two different schools covering a period of twenty-three years, moving on to Head of Special Educational Needs for Jersey. In 2005 I was given the responsibility for the building now known as The Bridge and the opportunity to turn it into Jersey’s first Family Centre – a one stop shop, housing statutory and voluntary services in one place. We opened with building works still in progress in the Spring of 2006.

It soon became evident that the small group of twelve parents coming to the Centre for support were only the tip of the iceberg and that other services needed to be put in place. It was clear that if they were to achieve anything, then this support needed to be wide ranging, addressing all aspects of family life and offered long term. So Brighter Future was born.

Never in my wildest dreams did I visualise a service that would deliver to so many and help build such strong families. It is the proudest achievement of my career.
