The keyworkers and creche team of Brighter Futures have been nominated in the Community Champions of the Year category for the Pride of Jersey Awards 2023.
The team was nominated by our Fundraising, Events and Partnerships Manager, Sarah, who said of her colleagues:
"The team at Brighter Futures goes above and beyond for the client families that they support every day. The charity supports more than 150 families per week. Each keyworker holds at least 10 clients at any one time.
Despite limitations on their premises and budget constraints (Brighter Futures must raise 95 % of its income every year), each keyworker supports their clients, many of whom face challenging circumstances, with kindness, ingenuity and compassion.
The 15 keyworkers are supported by a dedicated creche team, who are the backbone of Brighter Futures, enabling the keyworkers to run courses and learning programmes in the knowledge that clients' young children are safe and active in the creche, enjoying time with other children and qualified staff and volunteers.
All courses at Brighter Futures are free of charge and the families it supports come from all walks of life.
Team Brighter Futures deserves this award because of the numerous issues it helps clients to tackle, e.g., isolation, illness, anxiety, accommodation uncertainty, financial concerns, post-natal depression, and domestic abuse.
The keyworkers support clients by offering practical support (such as attending external appointments, working with other agencies and charities), enabling clients to build their self-esteem so that they thrive as their child's first and most important educator and role model.
In their own time, the team offers a free, monthly Dads Club and Brighter Futures Nights In for clients.
They host a Summer breakfast club and exemplify longevity of service, but most of all, they demonstrate kindness, empathy, and teamwork."
