Dressing Up, Building Confidence – Celebrating Our Costume Club!.
Thanks to the generous support of the Jersey Co-op Community Fund, our Costume Club has been helping children in Jersey enjoy the magic of dressing up, without the financial pressure on their families.
Established with a £1,000 grant from the Jersey Co-op Community Fund and officially launched in January 2026, the Brighter Futures Costume Club provides families accessing our services with free access to a wonderful collection of children's fancy-dress costumes.
From World Book Day and school history projects to themed learning days and fundraising events, dressing up is an exciting part of childhood. However, for families already managing the rising cost of living, purchasing costumes that may only be worn once can create additional financial pressure.
Our Costume Club offers a simple solution – borrow, enjoy and return!
The collection includes everything from Egyptian Pharaohs, Vikings and Roman Soldiers to much-loved characters such as Harry Potter, Matilda, Alice in Wonderland and Where's Wally, complete with accessories to help bring each character to life.
More Than Just a Costume
Over the past year, we've seen how this relatively simple initiative can make a meaningful difference.
By removing the cost of purchasing costumes, we're helping parents feel less anxious about school events while ensuring children can join in alongside their classmates, feeling included, excited and confident.
The Costume Club also supports our commitment to sustainability. By encouraging families to borrow and reuse costumes rather than purchasing new ones, we're helping to reduce unnecessary spending and waste.
What Our Families Are Saying
The feedback we've received highlights just how valuable this initiative has become.
"The Costume Club took away the worry of having to buy another costume. My daughter was so excited to dress up for World Book Day, and I didn't have the added financial pressure."
Another parent shared:
"My son has always wanted to join in with his classmates, but we simply couldn't justify spending money on a costume that would only be worn once. Being able to borrow one meant he didn't feel left out."
And for some families, the Costume Club has already become a resource they return to:
"Having access to the Costume Club saved us both time and money. It's a brilliant idea and the Brighter Futures team manage the booking out of costumes well. It's been something that has really helped our family on several occasions."
A Lasting Gift to Families in Jersey
One of the greatest benefits of the Costume Club is that the original investment will continue making a difference for years to come.
With good-quality, reusable costumes available to borrow throughout the year, more children will have the opportunity to enjoy school activities, explore their imagination and feel part of the fun.
A huge thank you to the Jersey Co-op Community Fund for making our Costume Club possible.
Your support has helped us create something that is practical, sustainable and genuinely valued by the families we work with.
Because sometimes, something as simple as a costume can make a big difference to a child's confidence, happiness and sense of belonging. 🧡
